Object Description: American market Chinese Export porcelain plate centered with a gilded shield with the Arms of Morgan, inscribed "Morgan" beneath the shield above crossed branches of laurel, the shield surmounted with a winged horse crest, the cavetto and rim bordered in overglaze blue enamel with gilded detail. From one of the earliest special order dinner services commissioned for the American market, ordered by John Morgan of Hartford, CT, carried back from Canton on the Empress of China by Morgan's nephew who was the ship's carpenter
